No one could agree what to call her. The rising Esperian populace call her Emperor, possessing no word for a leader of the opposite gender. The newborn religious sects refer to her as both Savoir and Saint. The mutinous orders call her the Goddess Tyrant. Some deem her the Power Child, and those closest to her refer to her as Latoya laTinala. Her offical title is Hegemon, the link between nations. Only a very rare few who knew her before the ascent to power still call her by her christened name, Renee Kinsoba.
Eighteen years have passed since the overthrow of Doctor Ivo Robotnik and the subsequent liberation of the mobian populace. It was an act made possible by the emergence of the Esper and their Emperor Latoya laTinala.
The Esper species was no ancient and spent so long in hermitude that they had passed into legend until twenty years ago, when in a unexpected show of bravado they launched a surprise act on Robotropolis, crippling the dictatorship but losing the vast majority of their own people in the process.
From that moment it was the ascention of Emperor Renee Kinsoba, a half Mobian, half Esperian child with extraordinary power and the alliance of the battered Mobian nations that eventually overcame the dictatorship.
From that alliance rose the Hegemony, a group of fledgling nations attempting to rebuild their kingdoms with the assistance from the only group with any real surviving powerbase: the Esperian Empire. The dependency became absolute in coming years and Latoya laTinala became the central leading power of the planet, a power that would grow over the years until the word Hegemon was barely dissimilar from Tyrant.
The Esper had disappeared from all knowledge a millennia ago. The legends still recounted their magical abilities and the vast array of technology they possessed.
They resembled the mobians, as varied in race diversity, but often with noticeable dissimilarities. They would often have horns when the mobian species did not, or elongated limbs, greater height, wild hair colors, or any combination. In fact, the physical appearance of an Esper is more often equated to chaos than genetics.
The Emperor, Latoya laTinala, was the daughter of an echidna man and an Esper refugee. She was deemed the Power Child long before her rise to power at the age of seventeen. She was gifted with an innate power in the magical arts that was unknown even during the height of the old Esperian Empire.
Tinalas dictatorship is not like Robotniks. The Hegemony is a central independent power that dictates for other nations. It does not have full power over the other nations, but is slowly growing in stature.
There is currently no mass resistance movement. For the most part, the fledgling nations are weak enough that they welcome the assistance from the Hegemony. The Kingdom of Acorn, having a relatively steady powerbase, has the greatest reason for a resistance movement, and is the center for most anti-Hegemonial thought. There has yet to be a country that declares itself separate from the Hegemony.
What resistance there is done through small organizations and small terrorist-like strikes.
